Creelers Seafood Restaurant

The first Creelers Restaurant was opened in Scotland by Tim and Fran James in 1990 at the Old Home Farm of Brodick Castle on the Island of Arran. The second followed in 1994 at Hunter Square, just off the Royal Mile, Edinburgh. The emphasis has always been on the provision of quality seafood gathered locally. Much of the food presented in the restaurant comes straight from West Coast Argyll & The Isles waters via the Creelers Smoke House to the table.

Although Creelers restaurant is renowned for seafood, the extensive lunch and dinner selections cater for all tastes, including vegetarian. Renowned chefs prepare fresh local produce which features in every menu, as does game. The restaurant's bistro style decor and friendly welcome complement the attention given to service - and above all - the pleasures of a splendidly varied and exciting cuisine.

A rran Smoked Products was established in 1992 to complement the quality fresh produce that was available in the first Creelers Restaurant on the Isle of Arran. In the intervening years, its reputation as a quality based small smokery has grown.

Some of the best seafood can be caught in the waters off the West of Scotland, a fact around which Tim and Fran James have based their business. Tim, who was involved in the fishing industry prior to the opening of their first restaurant, still owns the 'Margaret Eliza', which creels for shellfish. Normally we catch wild salmon and sea trout, but this year, in the interests of conservation of wild stocks, we decided not to make use of our bag-netting rights to fish in the clear waters of Loch Fyne. As a result, we are unable to offer wild salmon for sale.

The farmed salmon that Arran Smoked Products uses are sourced from two small independent fish farms in Scotland; one is based in the Outer Hebrides, the other in the extreme northwest of mainland Scotland. Both these fish farms adopt a sustainable salmon policy: large pens with lower stocking densities and no antibiotics. Fish farming can be a positive economic benefit to the fragile economy of the Highlands and Islands and by working closely with local environmentalists, fisheren and river authorities these fish farmers also help to preserve and improve the environment, wild salmon and sea bird populations.
